Remotely-proctored testing

In 2023, European competition tests organised by EPSO are remotely proctored for all competitions: specialists, generalists, CAST and most probably for internal competitions too.

How does remote testing work?

Remotely proctored tests are organised by EPSO as part of the EU institutions competitions. Since March 2024, they are administered by Testwe and the tests will be taken on their platform. When taking the tests :

  • You will need a desktop or laptop. Tablets and phones are forbidden.
  • The use of corporate computers is not allowed.
  • You must be alone in the room and make sure you will not be interrupted.
  • Only authorised material should be around you. Pen and paper are not allowed.

Please review this section on EU careers website to get familiar with the constraints of remote testing.

To take these remote tests, you will have to have the following material:

  • One single screen. If you would like to use a larger screen than the one on your laptop, you will have to connect your laptop to an external screen and close your laptop screen. Therefore, you will no longer be able to use your laptop’s integrated camera.
  • A movable web-camera: this could be the one on your laptop or a movable camera connected to your laptop or desktop computer.
  • A built-in or wired microphone.

Our preparation advice

We recommend you adapt your preparation to take the online tests with confidence on Exam Day.

  • Using the calculator

You will have to use the online calculator on Testwe platform. You will not be authorised to use any other calculator (either manual or on your phone).

  • Using the notepad

Pen and paper are foribidden when taking remotely proctored tests. If you need to take notes (to do calculations or streamline your thoughts), you will need to use the onscreen notepad, available for numerical reasoning.

These two additional constraints can surprise unprepared candidates and make them waste a lot of time.

The change in the testing environment affects all the strategy to prepare for the numerical reasoning test.

You can prepare for this change by practising our online tests on our website's new testing environment.

First, you will probably notice that using this online environment adds difficulty while the clock ticks by. Don’t panic! You risk doing calculation mistakes and waste even more time.

With some practise, you will acquire automatisms and gain on speed.

Keep in mind that everyone will face the same constraints and that you sensibly multiply your chance of success by following our methodology and practising on our online tests.
